OUR MISSION

The Mission of the ICO shall be to foster the spirit of unity and understanding of Islam among Muslims and people of all faiths, to represent Muslims at the local and state levels by promoting Islamic values, and to enhance the quality of life for men, women and children across the State of Oklahoma.


ABOUT US

The Islamic Council of Oklahoma (ICO) is registered as a Nonprofit Organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Tax Code. It is a council of Mosques & Muslim organizations serving the Muslims of Oklahoma. Since 2009, the Council continues to foster the spirit and culture of "working together" at all levels in Oklahoma.

The Islamic Council's membership covers all of Oklahoma. It closely liaises with the community and the various Islamic organizations - both now able to to remain formally connected, vibrantly engaged and actively learning from each other for the good of all.

The Islamic Council of Oklahoma serves as a valuable resource on Islam and Muslims in Oklahoma to the leadership of all faiths, public sector agencies and myriad community based organizations. It maintains an ongoing working relationship with a host of social justice organizations and several faith groups to work for the betterment of Oklahoma.

We, the members of the Islamic Council of Oklahoma will abide by Allah's (SWT) command to “enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and believe in Allah.” (Holy Quran, 3:110), “and hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not be divided.” (Holy Quran, 3:103), and “and cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression” (Holy Quran, 5:2).

GOALS

Goal 1: Nurture and facilitate effective communication, better understanding, and cooperation among the Islamic organizations.
Goal 2: Help the Muslim community identify and address the issues affecting their everyday lives.
Goal 3: Serve as the official public relations representative for the full member organizations.
Goal 4: Serve as an Islamic education resource center to facilitate educational, spiritual and personal growth of Oklahomans.
Goal 5: Encourage and support Muslims to take a proactive role through involvement in civic organizations at all levels.
Goal 6: Advocate the recognition of the Islamic Culture as part of America’s Mainstream Culture.
Goal 7: Coordinate activities with national Muslim organizations to promote the interest of Muslims.
Goal 8: Encourage and support the activities of the Islamic organizations to foster better community relations and promote gender equality and youth development.
Goal 9: Provide support and resources for educating and training the Muslim youth through scholarship and productive activism.
Goal 10: Encourage Muslim women to take an active role in all activities and assume their rightful role in leadership.
